Doug & Ali Help Kidscan Help Nz Kids

At 2pm today all 486 children at Weymouth Primary, Manukau will be the first
to receive free raincoats for the opening initiative of new charity KidsCan.

Doug Howlett and Ali Williams, official patrons of the charity, as well as
graduate of Weymouth Primary, Joe Rokocoko will be there for a surprise
'special assembly' for the children.

KidsCan is dedicated to making a real difference to the lives of New Zealand
children and it starts today with giving Weymouth Primary children the basic
necessity of a raincoat.

Over 4,000 coats will be initially distributed throughout New Zealand to
lower decile primary schools. KidsCan undertook research that discovered an
alarming amount of children miss school or have ill health as a result of
not having the basic need of a raincoat. With support from major sponsor
Warehouse Stationery and adidas over 10,000 coats will be distributed each
year.

Julie Helson, founder of KidsCan, says "we are so passionate about what we
are doing for New Zealand children and are positive that it will make a
significant difference to their wellbeing. Doug and Ali are role models for
these kids and to have their support solidifies the ordinary yet for these
kids extraordinary difference it will make in their lives"

The launch of KidsCan commences at 1:30pm at Weymouth Primary School,
Manukau in the school hall. The official ceremony will end with all the
students, lead by Doug and Ali, doing a celebratory walk in their raincoats
around the perimeter of the school.

KidsCan will also be launching two other campaigns this year including the
'Heath Start programme' and 'Vitamins for Kids'. For further information
