Hit The Curve! Hits The Road
Hit The Curve! Hits The
Road
Wellington, Hutt and Porirua Seasons – June 12-28
Four young dancer/singers will be performing over the next two weeks in Wellington, the Hutt Valley and Porirua, following a month spent on the road, taking a message of road-safety to secondary schools. Using the mediums of hip hop and rap, the show entitled Hit The Curve! is being produced by the Wellington Performing Arts Centre and has proved to be a novel way of reinforcing the message that “speed kills”.
Featuring choreography by Auckland dancer Trey Salanoa and music by Wellington composer, Richard Wise, the show was commissioned from writer Paul Simei-Barton and directed by Justine Simei-Barton. The story is a depiction of how drag racing can go seriously wrong with a tragic crash putting an end to two young people finding love.
However the show’s catchy raps and vigorous breaking moves have ensured the student audiences have enjoyed it to the fullest. The tour which is funded by the Road Safety Trust and the City Councils of Wellington, Hutt and Porirua, concludes in Porirua on 28 June, but it is expected that a further tour will be undertaken in the South Island next year.
