Face-To-Face With World’s Top Snowboarders
It’s not everyday the world’s top snowboarders come to town but they’re on their way to Lake Wanaka for the Burton NZ Open on 3-5 August. Locals and visitors to Lake Wanaka will have the opportunity to meet these inspirational athletes in person during a one-off rider-signing session in the lead up to the competition.
Olympic gold medallist Hannah Teter, World Superpipe Champion, Mason Aguirre and New Zealand’s own Olympic representative, Juliane Bray will all be at Quest Wanaka between 4.00pm and 5.30pm on Wednesday 2 August to sign autographs, take photographs and share their experiences of life on the pro snowboarding circuit.
“These are some of the biggest names in world snowboarding and it’s great to be able to offer youngsters the opportunity to meet their heroes and discover what it takes to make it big,” said event organiser, Reuben Yeoman. “They’ll be joined by several other pro riders from the USA, Japan, Europe and New Zealand, representing the international nature of this event.”
The Burton NZ Open takes place at Snow Park with the Slopestyle on 3 August, the Invitational Quarterpipe on the evening of 4 August and the Halfpipe finals on 5 August with a massive $50,000 prize purse at stake. The action continues downtown in the Lake Wanaka Centre on 3 and 5 August with the Open Gravis Sessions featuring performances from leading New Zealand artists King Kapisi, Kora and Shapeshifter.
