Second Annual Wairoa Maori Film Festival
Second Annual Wairoa Maori Film Festival
Mark your
calendars now for a Springtime visit to Wairoa: Labour
Weekend 2006 is the confirmed date for the Second Annual
Wairoa Maori Film Festival.
Spurred on by the success of last year's festival, which drew crowds from around the country and garnered national and international media exposure, the organisers of this year's festival have set a date for Maori Film Festival 2006: Labour Weekend Friday October 20th to Monday October 23rd 2006.
Once again, the focus of festivities will be the Gaiety Cinema on Wairoa's elegant Marine Parade, and the esteemed Takitimu Marae in North Clyde, Wairoa.
The Wairoa community will present its second ever showcase of Maori film and television creativity and talent over the long weekend. Alongside the Maori programme will be an international programme of indigenous films from Canada, Australia, the USA and Tonga.
New features, short films, and documentaries will be presented as well as an archival selection profiling the works of Maori film-maker Barry Barclay. A highlight is expected to be the Maori Music and Festival Awards Night.
Wairoa Maori Film Festival 2006 - a celebration of Maori and Indigenous film, will be presented under the theme of "Nga Terenga Mahara ~ Nga Ara Ki Te Whakapono", which translates as "Streams of Consciousness ~ Pathways to Belief".
Further details of the festival will be launched soon via press releases and additions to the festival's redesigned website, accessible now at:
