Praise for NZ Idol decision to postpone contestant’s involvement
Family Life International praises the TVNZ decision to stand down pregnant contestant Georgina from its New Zealand Idol contest.
“It is extremely encouraging to us that the wellbeing of Georgina and her unborn baby have been placed ahead of the pursuit of celebrity and fame” says Family Life International media spokesperson; Brendan Malone.
“This decision places motherhood on the pedestal that it deserves to be placed on, and it promotes respect for pregnant women and their unborn children.”
“In light of recent focus on the issue of child abuse in New Zealand, the TVNZ decision promotes a healthy respect for motherhood and responsible parenting, something that needs to be highlighted as often as possible if we wish to see change in regards to this issue.”
Family Life International believes that the decision to provide Georgina with a “golden ticket” which will provide her instant entry into the finals of a future New Zealand Idol contest is a fair and just decision.
“If a fourth New Zealand Idol happens then Georgina will be able to return after her baby has been born to show that pregnancy is not a burden or a hindrance to living a full and complete life” says Brendan Malone.
