Unitec Acting Up Tour at Bats
BATS Mail
9 August 2006
Kia ora
all,
Missed us? A few technical difficulties with BATSmail this week so we've gone back to manual!
...Well,
Auckland gets a bad wrap sometimes: too many egos, Shortland Street etc etc etc - well we here at BATS actually enjoy the odd Auckland based show, and this week’s full.
The Unitec final year acting students are camping out at BATS right now, ready to wow you with two devised shows: La Creduta Morta and You Can't Surf in Aotea Square. Not only are they great shows, but you can be the one to say you saw them before they had even made it big. Always nice. Did I tell you I met Jude Law before he was a giant celebrity love-rat? Never mind...
With three performances a day, there are no excuses for missing these fledgling pros. And with the Theatre out of action next week for maintenance, it's your last chance to settle down with a $1 mixture and watch some great theatre for a while.
Oh yes, on Friday night at 9pm Winning Productions present Face Down and Drowning in It too - a one off improvised performance directed by Stephen Bain, featuring some top names. See below for more on all shows on this week!
See
you down here,

La Creduta Morta Unitec
A fusion of the rich textual energy of
Shakespeare with the vibrant, physical energy of Commedia
dell 'Arte. Commedia dell'Arte is a form of semi-improvised
comedy which started in the marketplaces of Italy over 400
years ago. It is a half-mask tradition which has had a huge
impact on many forms of theatre.

You Can't Surf in Aotea Square Unitec
A collage of
characters that move in and out of Aotea Square, bound
together in a story of death, love, and Auckland City. It's
skateboarders on sculptures, seagulls versus lawyers, sushi
eaters, hamburger eaters, lovers and the lost walking
through a place that claims them.
There will be an
opportunity after each show for the audience to discuss
elements of the production with the cast.
