and what remains

She is the last and now she too waits to depart.”

Following a successful season of this controversial play, at the City Gallery, in November, 2005, and what remains returns for a season at Bats Theatre, opening Friday, August 25, 2006.

As her boarding call nears, a battle weary Mary finds the flight is delayed. She is confronted by the despairing Peter, bringing with him revelations of why her family have departed. Mary is joined by others, Solomon, an anxious young man who awaits his first flight abroad; Ana, a restless young cleaner who has finished her dayshift and the worldly wise traveller Imlah, who awaits her own flight.

and what remains is a story which foreshadows the possibility of ethnic cleansing in New Zealand.

Emerging Pacific Islands Artist of the Year (2005), Miria George (Rarotonga, Atiu, Cook Islands; Te Arawa, Ngati Awa) has refined her controversial play and what remains preparing the play for the Return Season 2006.

and what remains features a multi award-winning crew, with direction by Hone Kouka and sound design by Stephen Gallagher.

Solomon is Semu Filipo (Shortland Street), Mary is Erina Daniels (Insider’s Guide to Happiness), Peter is Simon Vincent (Death of a Salesman), Imlah is Rina Patel (The Lambuji and Tinguji Show) and Ana is Sam Selliman (Killian’s Curse).

and what remains has been invited to premiere at the Pasifika Styles Festival, University of Cambridge, England, April, 2007.

and what remains Return Season opens, 8.30pm, Friday, August 25, 2006, until Saturday, September 2, 2006, at Bats Theatre, Wellington. Tickets $20/$12.
