175 East concerts in Wellington and Auckland
'Here we are for a moment', a substantial new work by up-and-coming New Zealand composer Samuel Holloway features alongside two pieces by leading British composer Richard Barrett in a brace of concerts by Auckland's leading contemporary music ensemble 175 East this weekend.
Conductor Hamish McKeich and the 175 East core sextet are joined for these concerts by two virtuoso soloists, the pianist Mark Knoop and the violinist Mark Menzies, for a performance of Richard Barrett's 'Trawl', for piano trio, flute and bass clarinet. The concerts also include 'Trace Elements' by the Australian composer Damien Ricketson and the premiere of 'swerving with the weave', a new piece written for 175 East by young British composer Larry Goves.
