The Otago Festival Of The Arts Announces Full Programme Details
The fourth Otago Festival of the Arts is a showcase of artistic excitement, style, panache, superb performance and pure indulgence. This major cultural event presents an impressive array of international and New Zealand performers – along with some of Otago’s finest artists. With several premières, and guest artists coming from six countries, the Otago Festival of the Arts promises to be a riveting feast of creative endeavour.
The Festival programme is rich and varied and includes for the first time, a diverse and fascinating Literature programme. For nine dynamic days and nights, audiences will find plenty to entertain, to stimulate, to enjoy and to challenge. There will be something for everyone.
Among the many acts in this boutique Festival, organisers are proud to have secured the virtuoso magic of the French jazz ensemble the Jacques Loussier Trio. This will be the final opportunity ever to hear the unique sound of the Jacques Loussier Trio in New Zealand as the Trio has chosen to retire from the rigors of touring outside Europe.
For over 45 years audiences all over the world have been electrified by Jacques Loussier and his extraordinary Trio. Having sold millions of albums the Trio is known worldwide for their inspired reinvention of the work of JS Bach. The Jacques Loussier Trio also give the “Loussier treatment” to the music of Vivaldi, Ravel, Handel, Beethoven and Satie.
This will be an unparalleled evening of astounding jazz. Jacques Loussier, Benoit Dunoyer de Segonzac and André Arpino will never be back again!
Los Angeles based company The Actors’ Gang (Artistic Director Tim Robbins) will present The Guys exclusively in Dunedin. The Guys is a heart-wrenching play set in the days of turmoil following the destruction of the World trade Centre. Journalist and Scriptwriter Anne nelson is asked to help one of New York’s Precinct Fire Chiefs write eulogies for eight of his vanished fire fighters. The intimate and moving dialogue between nelson and the Fire Chief forms the basis of the unforgettable story.
Direct from Buenos Aries – the award winning Iñaki Urlezaga and the stunning Ballet Concierto. This will be an evening of evocative theatre, steamy tango and Latin American passion. The exquisite dancers of Ballet Concierto will envelop you in an alluring evening of contemporary dance epitomising everything that is the capital of Argentina.
Once again, the Otago Festival of the Arts will confirm this region’s passion for the arts.
