Can Construct – Architects to Turn Cans of Food into Works of Art
Approximately 15,000 cans of food will be transformed into architectural works of art next week (Wednesday, September 6), in what promises to be one of the most visually entertaining events of Auckland Architecture Week.
Can Construct will see a number of top Auckland architectural practices compete to create giant installations or sculptures using thousands of cans of food.
The public will be able to watch the architects working on their weird and wacky installations, and at the close of the exhibition, which will be held at the Britomart Pavilion, the cans will be donated to the Auckland City Mission to be used for meals at their inner-city shelter and to include in their food parcels.
During the week long exhibition, it will be up to the public to decide which Can Construction is the best, with a prize going to the winning architectural practice.
Participating practices include Aimer Naismith/Cook Sargisson & Pirie, GHD Limited, Jasmax, Retail Consulting Group, Stephenson & Turner, Woodhams Meikle Zhan Architects.
Practices will begin building the structures from 10 am next Wednesday, September 6. The completed exhibits will remain on show until Tuesday, September 12.
