SPARC recruits Warriner to Ambassador programme

Triathlete and Commonwealth Games silver medallist, Samantha Warriner will soon be venturing into schools throughout New Zealand offering inspiration and advice to students as part of SPARC’s (Sport & Recreation New Zealand) Ambassador programme.

“We’re delighted to have Sam on the programme. She’s a stunning athlete and an amazing woman who’ll be a fantastic role model to young Kiwis,” said SPARC Chief Executive Nick Hill.

Hill said the Ambassador programme aims to inspire youth to reach their goals mentally and physically.

“We’re really concerned about the declining physical activity levels of teenagers, particularly teenage girls. With Sam’s background in teaching and sport, she’s the ideal person to be talking to youth about the benefits of leading an active and healthy lifestyle.”

Warriner has an impressive record. She was twice victor in ITU World Cup races, is past National, Oceania, and World Aquathlon champion, and won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne earlier this year.

The triathlete said she was looking forward to sharing her experiences and motivational tips with young New Zealanders.

“Never give up, it doesn’t matter how hard it seems at the time. The key is persistence, stay focussed on your goals, do the little things right along the way, and it will happen,” said Warriner who’s competing in the ITU Triathlon World Championships in Switzerland tomorrow.

“We’re confident Sam will do well in Switzerland and we wish her good luck,” said Hill.

Other SPARC Ambassadors include Barbara Kendall, Cory Hutchings, Bevan Martin, Steve Gurney, Cindy Mosey, Fiona Southorn and Nathan Fa’avae.
