Fashion.co.nz Feature: Adrian Hailwood Hits The Catwalk

It was clear when the first model hit the catwalk that we were in for a standout show from Adrian Hailwood. His Winter 2007 collection combined clean straight lines, bold colour tones, and striking fabrics.
Known for funky prints, Hailwood’s signature print for the season is bold forest green with black floral detailing and an occasional bird thrown in for good measure. This looked best on a strapless dress with random pleats through the body worn over a simple t-shirt. A ‘70s style print of a puppy was printed on soft lemon coloured tees for both girls and guys.
Fabrics glistened from the lights on the catwalk and moved beautifully with the body. Velvet was prominent as was satin, wool, silk, sequins, and patent leather on shoes and belts.
Pants were, as usual, ultra skinny leg and looked great in pale denim with large buttons trailing down the ankle. Man-style pants were also a feature in tweed, plaid, charcoal and black with large pleats at the waist.
A definite on my wish list for Winter is a Hailwood coat – beautifully tailored, A-line with large buttons and a wide curvaceous collar. Coats and shirts were often belted under the bust (or on the waist) and around the wrist.
Knitwear was strong with chunky wool vests in grey and lime green panels, worn over shirts and hoodies for guys; and long charcoal v-necks belted and worn as dresses for girls. Belts were often buckled at the back, perhaps setting a new trend for Winter…
Models had pale faces with Hailwood’s signature style of deep, bold lipstick – this year in blue blood. I loved the black and white patent leather stilettos but I’m not sure if the models felt the same way as two lost a heel on the catwalk!
