Veronica Keucke A First Timer At Fashion Week

Fashionz.co.nz Feature: Veronica Keucke A First Timer At Air NZ Fashion Week

Veronica Keucke is a first timer here at ANZFW, but certainly no stranger to the catwalk. Now in her 6th year of designing, this Dunedin-based talent recently won the Mercedes Start-Up competition and has showed in Sydney, at I-D Dunedin and in Wellington. Her inclusion in the first Verge breakthrough group was very exciting for her, but her feet were firmly on the ground when she stated that her main aim was to “get more exposure for my brand – so it helps my stockists”.

Winter 2007 for Keucke is all about space and the first model wore a slinky satin top pleated onto a yoke at the neck, printed with the word “BANG” across the front. Reminiscent of 60’s pop art this was only one of the decades that this young designer drew from. What followed was a mixture of styles as diverse as a velvet 1940’s style dress with a Peter pPan collar, through to an 80’s influenced sweater dress.

The cohesion is this collection came from clever choices of fabric: silver satin that really worked that space theme, lightweight jersey printed with a galaxy of stars with the same print carried through into black satin. Stars also adorned the nylon “Orbit” parka – perhaps the most casual piece in the range.

The palette of grey & black shot with splashes of silver was dark but speaking with this accomplished young woman backstage, she tells me that isn’t necessarily typical of her, it was simply that the theme and fabrics “came together”.
