Feature: Ooby Ryn At Air NZ Fashion Week

Fashionz.co.nz Feature: Ooby Ryn At Air NZ Fashion Week

OOBY RYN - The name Ooby Ryn is a mix-up of Cambridge designer Robyn Brooks’ own name. So it was in keeping to send out an eclectic parade of looks sampling a little bit of this, a little bit of that but a lot of modern polish and skilful tailoring

For this VERGE Breakthrough Collection, Brooks explores a wide variety of patterns and textures - and shape, as she alternated voluminous silhouettes with clean lines.

The show opened with a theatrical Westwood-esque tartan ensemble complete with sporran and white socks, then moved through some casual looks - pretty patterned skirts in checks and batiks. Checks have been used consistently throughout this year’s Fashion Week so Ooby Ryn is on track with what’s looking to be the big trend for next winter.

A butterfly motif projected on the catwalk entrance also made an appearance as a delicate overprint on a strappy dress, and then as an accessory – peeping out of a waistcoat pocket to pretty-up the only masculine look.

Brooks is strong on accessories – and those who know her past collections can’t forget her signature wide waist belts with ‘80s style buckles. Today she showed wide leather belts again, confirming they are an integral part of the Ooby Ryn look.
