Feature: Trelise Cooper At Air NZ Fashion Week

Complete with medieval monks, an angel bearing fire sticks, and a jester, Trelise Cooper put on a hell of a show presenting her Winter 2007 ranges! Held off-site at the opulent St James Theatre the show featured the Cooper by Trelise range, Trelise Cooper Kids, her lingerie, and Trelise Cooper. Yes, she has been busy!

Cooper by Trelise

The Cooper by Trelise range kicked off the show, displaying femininity, romanticism, and a hint of Gothicism. Pieces were layered up in diverse fabrics and colour combinations. A subdued colour palette of blacks, greys, creams and deep tones were used. Thick textured stockings accompanied skirts and dresses, often in contrasting shades.

Polka dots featured throughout the collection on voluminous skirts and graceful shirts. I loved Trelise’s use of bell-sleeves on chiffon blouses layered under balloon-style frocks. Finishes on garments were divine - a black ribbon bowed at the edge of a skirt was a favourite. Panelling on jackets and patchwork on skirts added even more depth to garments.

Models wore waist-length hair extensions and often thick socks, legwarmers and arm-warmers.

In the Trelise Cooper range femininity continued with lace, bows, plush velvet, silk and chiffon. Bows were used along the neckline in various sizes, and also featured boldly in gold sequins on the back of a black dress with chiffon bell-sleeve arms.

Again different fabrics were combined, often in the same colour tone. Dresses were worn over skivvies or tunics, adorned subtly with a trail of sequins that gleamed on the catwalk. Stockings were matched with outfits and looked great in tartan.

Frills and ruffles were tastefully applied to add volume and movement to garments. Ruffled and bell-sleeves were a hit, matched with long sleeve tops underneath, as were Trelise’s man-style wide-leg pants. Belts featured under the bust - a prominent trend emerging for Winter.

Attention was paid to the waistline and a beautiful silhouette was created by the use of corset detailing on jackets and ruching at the waist of tops.
