Feature: Serdoun Couture At Air NZ Fashion Week

Fashionz.co.nz Feature: Serdoun Couture At Air NZ Fashion Week

As one of the Verge Breakthrough Designers, Serdoun Couture showed a collection of garments with a hint of vintage style and Hollywood glamour. Designed by Alissa Serdoun, the Winter 2007 range is resolutely feminine, wearable, and colourful, with some refreshingly experimental pieces.

Inspired by actress Lauren Bacall’s movie To Have and Have Not, the collection boasts rich colours and feminine shapes. Plush velvet swung beautifully on trumpet skirts in a foliage print of gold, chocolate, navy and black. A ‘40s style wallpaper print was used on jackets and high-waisted skirts – very glamorous!

The colour palette is deep and rich including chocolate, navy, black, maroon, and primary red. Sequins added a sprinkle of glitz to garments.

Coats were simple yet stunning with clean tailoring, large buttons and pockets. Subtle ruching on shoulders and the back of jackets added shape. I loved how Serdoun turned a simple black dress into something special with a bold red silk tie, or a vintage print on the collar, or with subtle pleats and gathering.

Serdoun herself, an expat Russian, is no stranger to Air New Zealand Fashion Week. She modelled in the event several years ago and has also presented her designs in an AUT Rookie show.
