Fashionz.co.nz Feature: Deutz Award At Air NZ Fashion Week
This year’s Deutz Fashion Design Ambassador Award winner was Sherie Muys, a third year design student at AUT. Muys’ collection played on the sexiness of a classic tailored men’s white shirt when worn on a woman’s body. The interpretation of the typically male garment into a sexy mini dress with a twist was achieved with the addition of additional layers of sheer white cotton, turning the look on its head – literally. Sherie says the win is “beyond my wildest dreams” and that she is “really looking forward to the challenges ahead.”
The other finalists were a talented bunch – you have to pity the judges of this event – but it certainly means the future of New Zealand fashion is safe. Some favourites included a menswear collection from Angela Steedman that played on granddad themes with a paisley shirt under a knitted vest and a zip fronted jersey under an oversized duffle coat, and a selection of cute jersey knit playsuits in cream and black that had lovely scalloped details and oversized buttons from Tieneke Simone Drupsteen.

The Deutz Fashion
Design Ambassador Award is an opportunity for young
designers to showcase their talent. Awards are traditionally
bestowed at an event held the week before fashion week, with
the ten finalists taking three of their favourite pieces to
the catwalk in the Deutz Fashion Design Ambassador show
during the event.
The winner takes home a fantastic prize encompassing a trip to London complete with $3000 spending money, is given the opportunity to experience London Fashion Week and while there, meet and learn from leaders within the London fashion scene.
