It was all about glitz and glamour at Yvonne Bennetti’s show, named Scandal. The collection had a strong ‘60s feel with the Bennetti trademarks covered; beautiful custom-designed fabrics, luxury trims, fabulous tailoring and sexy shoes.
Inspired by the Profumo Affair which brought down the British Government in 1963, plush velvet, silk, fur, lace, and plenty of sequins were used throughout the collection. Focus was on fabrics and tailoring rather than prints, however a linear foliage print and butterfly patches were spotted.
Not for shrinking violets, faux fur, leopard printed bomber jackets with silk sateen leopard print linings featured along with sequined shift dresses in gold and silver. Large fur trims were used on coats, matched with ink or chocolate coloured stockings and sequined hot pants.
More wearable pieces included boxy coats with round collars and oversized buttons. Oversizing was also found in the form of beautiful jet-black beading adorning coats, and large buckles on belts.
Knitwear was strong, a favourite being a grey marl skivvy with intricate sequins outlining the shape of a singlet. Accessories include saucy black stockings with red seams, patent 5” heels, and long rouged leather gloves.
