Idol’s mother leaves the show

In tonight’s live NZ IDOL results show (at 8pm on TV2), contestant Toni Baird (29 years from Wellington) was the fifth person to be eliminated from the NZ IDOL Top 10.

After last night’s Impulse Groove special, Toni, the eldest Idol contestant, was placed in the bottom two along side the youngest Idol, Ben Hazelwood (17 years, from Wellington).

In the Impulse Groove special Toni sang Sweet Child Of Mine by Guns and Roses. In the Elton John’s special she sang Your Song. Previously she has sung Jolene by Dolly Parton, The Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks, When Something Is Wrong With My Baby by Sam and Dave and at the regional piano round in Wellington she sang Bathe In the River by Hollie Smith.

The judges were once again shocked by how the public voted.

“It wasn’t Toni’s time to go, she has been going from strength-to-strength and we still hadn’t seen the best from her yet,” says Frankie Stevens.

The remaining NZ Top 10 contestants are: Aroha Robinson from Mt Maunganui, Ben Hazelwood from Wellington, Indira Moala from Auckland, Kali Kopae from Christchurch and Matt Saunoa from Levin.
