First Auckland Seafood Festival a Success!
Over 15,000 people descended upon the Auckland Fish Market this weekend to enjoy the inaugural Auckland Seafood Festival. Saturday brought guests a sneak preview of summer and over 25 tonnes of seafood was devoured. Today, another dedicated early crowd enjoyed a great mix of seafood and rain failed to deter dedicated Festival-goers. Overall the Festival was well-received by the public as a fantastic celebration of our unique connection to the sea.
Kathy Cunningham, Event Director of empire PR and Events, says “This was a great inaugural year for the Festival. The number of Aucklanders and visitors to Auckland that attended the event over the last two days clearly illustrated an increased interest in the seafood industry. Now firmly established on the Auckland events calendar the weekend can only get bigger and better as word spreads of its success.”
Some of the highlights for guests included performances by One Million Dollars, Nesian Mystik, The Mermaids and The Warratahs. The seafood selection ensured a great mix for everyone with prawn kebabs, smoked fish, steamed crayfish, paua fritters and the ever-popular kiwi classic fish ‘ n’ chips to name just a few. To complement the food on offer Glengarry assisted in supplying NZ Wine and French Champagne to match as well as Monteith’s offering their reputable selection of beer.
Guests relaxing in the VIP Lounge enjoyed top corporate hospitality over the weekend care of the Rotary Club of Auckland East. Their experience was enhanced greatly with appearances and demonstrations by some of New Zealand’s most well-known chefs including Geoff Scott and Derek the Chef with Graeme Sinclair of ‘Gone Fishin’.
Now preparation begins for 2007. Profits from this weekends Festival will be distributed by the Rotary Club of Auckland East to not-for-profit organizations supporting fisherman and sea search & rescue
