Rally Presents Variety Coach to Kaikorai Valley
College
As the Silver Fern Rally prepares to leave
Dunedin, they also leave behind a reminder they were here by
making a significant contribution to Variety – The
Children’s Charity’s Sunshine Coach programme.
The children of the special learning centre at Kaikorai Valley College in Dunedin will be presented with a brand new Ford Transit Van at a dinner function this evening. The Variety Sunshine Coach will be fitted out with a special hoist and seating to accommodate children confined to wheelchairs and is valued at $55,000.
Funds for the Coach were raised following a highly successful rest day (Wednesday October 11th) for the Rally participants, which included a social event at the Dunedin Ice Stadium, and a Charity Diner at Carrisbrook, which featured motivational guest speaker Tony Christiansen.
Organisers of the week long NZ Silver Fern Rally are pleased to be associated with, and to be able to support Variety – The Children’s Charity. The organisers also made a significant contribution to Variety on behalf of all competitors, the details of which will be announced at the dinner.
Rally chairman Gary Smith said, “Variety have been very supportive in the planning of our event, and it is great to be able to give something back. I have encouraged entrants, teams and supporters to get behind the Variety day, this is one part of the week, not to be missed.”
The Rally competition continues tomorrow with stages north of Dunedin, and in the Central Otago and South Canterbury areas before finishing the day at the Scenic Circle Russley Hotel in Christchurch. The Rally finishes on Saturday back where it started in Blenheim.
