Hon Roger McClay Elected as Chair of Keep New Zealand Beautiful
Former Minister and Commissioner for Children Hon Roger McClay was elected Chairman of the Board of the Keep New Zealand Beautiful Society at the societies Annual Conference and Meeting in Wellington over the weekend.
Roger McClay said following his election, that he was very proud and somewhat excited about his appointment.
" I am really looking forward to leading the programmes which seek to inspire and motivate all New Zealanders to be part of restoring, enhancing and protecting our nations environment.
We can do these things most easily by establishing partnerships with community, iwi, business and local/central Government," he said.
The Keep NZ Beautiful society has in recent years grown and expanded to most parts of NZ. It is the Governments preferred environment enhancement organisation and carries a unique responsibility under the Litter Act. Although it is a private membership society, KNZB under the act promotes and advises to Government on issues relating to litter.
"This society is again a formidable player in the world of environment ideals and I'll be supporting the current wonderful efforts of more than 40 programme sites around the country," said Roger McClay.
"We will, before Xmas, be appointing a paid General Manager and I intend to work closely with politicians and Government agencies to encourage even more expansion of programmes with business, schools, local govt and community organisations."
"As our Patron 'the bugman' Ruud Klienpaste so aptly puts it, we did not inherit this World from our grand parents, rather, we have borrowed it from our children," concluded Roger McClay.
