Elton John At The Westpac Stadium
PRESS RELEASE
YES THE WAITING IS
OVER!
Elton John Will Be At The Westpac Stadium Wellington On December 6
Wellington based concert promoter Capital C: Concerts have scored the seemingly impossible--a rare one-off New Zealand concert by legendary rock superstar Sir Elton John for Wellington’s Westpac Stadium on Wednesday December 6.
“The Captain And The Kid Tour” was originally only scheduled for a series of indoor shows in major Australian cities in late November-early December. But a gap between two shows offered a unique opportunity to get Elton to cross the Tasman for his New Zealand fans.
This concert, which is his only large stadium performance ‘Downunder’, will be an night of classic Elton John featuring all of his greatest hits together with songs from his new album in collaboration with Bernie Taupin – a two-hour plus historic musical performance, even more spectacular than any Elton show to date, with flawless production and large screens to ensure that the audience is ‘close’ to the stage.
Together with long-time band members Davey Johnstone, Nigel Olsson, Guy Babylon, Bob Birch, and John Mahon, this will be the first time since 1998 that Elton has performed in NZ and the first time since 1980 that he has been back in the Capital.
“The Captain And The Kid” is Elton and Bernie’s all-new, autobiographical sequel to the classic 1975 album that documented their experiences to that point, ‘Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy’. More than 30 years after its release Elton really has become Captain Fantastic and Bernie is most definitely The Brown Dirt Cowboy. With close to 40 years in the industry ‘The Captain and the Kid’ is Elton’s 44th album. “The Bridge”, the first track to be lifted from the new album, displays his insatiable appetite to meet and beat new creative challenges.
Elton John is a legend in his lifetime, a great humanitarian, a multiple Grammy winner, a flamboyant superstar and a hero of our times; Elton is the most enduringly successful singer/songwriter of his generation. He has sustained an inimitable career; scoring at least one Top 40 American hit a year between 1972 and 1996. His path has been entirely his own, operating outside the fickle swings and roundabouts of musical fashions but always, somehow, managing to connect with everyone.
The concert openers are sensational Wellington Band ‘PEARL’. Onstage at 7pm. Gates will open at 5pm. (Rain or Shine)
