Young film makers produce outstanding work
From documentary to comedy, the top ten films shot by secondary schools students throughout New Zealand produced some fantastic work according to judges Angela Littlejohn, former U.K. film and television producer, Peter Salmon, a former director for Weta Workshop and current writer for the Gibson Group, and Paula Allen, Head of Media Studies at Hamilton’s Hillcrest High School and media consultant with NZQA and the Ministry of Education.
The work was described as technically and stylistically sophisticated, powerful, extremely resourceful and superbly directed.
“Cut!” is an annual competition open to NCEA level two and three students nationwide. It is run by Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec) School of Media Arts.
Head of School Margi Moore said “Cut ‘06” was the event’s third highly successful year and one which had encouraged, challenged and tested every individual involved to put their creative and technical talents on the line in what is probably the first time in a public arena.
“The schools and students involved can feel extremely proud of themselves,” she said.
The film’s screened to a full house at Hamilton’s Rialto Theatre on Sunday October 29 and the audience was hugely enthusiastic about the talent they were witnessing. It’s a great event and the schools, teachers and students should feel rightly proud of themselves.
