#1 feelers
the feelers claim the Albums Chart top spot straight out of the box with their fourth set One World, and gain their third New Zealand #1 album in the process - their second to start out on top.
James Reid, Hamish Gee and Matt Thomas’ debut album Supersystem spent a week on top in September 1998 and went on to be the #2 best-selling album that year and #12 the following.
Their sophomore set Communicate opened at the summit in October 2001, then third set Playground Battle opened at #8 in December 2003, which brings us to album four. Title track and lead single One World peaked at #2 on the RadioScope100 and is #7 this week, while it’s also #9 on the Singles list.
the feelers join Crowded House, Hayley Westenra and Bic Runga as Kiwis with three #1 albums, all tied in second place behind Split Enz with four.
If we’re talking individuals, Neil Finn racks up a total of 10 as a soloist, duo member and part of Split Enz and Crowded House, while older sibling Tim has a tally of 8).

Freddy Foils Floyd
Fat Freddy’s Drop release their first DVD, Fantastic Voyages Volume 1 this week and force Pink Floyd’s P.U.L.S.E. into the runner up position after 18 straight weeks at #1.
They become just the third local act to have a #1 on that chart following Hayley Westenra’s Live In Concert in May 2005 and Shihad’s Love Is The New Hate: Live In Aotea Square in May this year.
Based On A True Story continues its Albums chart runs notching up an 81st consecutive week, while the Fat Freddy’s boys work on material for a second album, expected mid-2007.

Brothers In Charts
Two decades ago Dire Straits charted with Brother In Arms which spent a total of 21 non-consecutive weeks on top of the Albums Chart.
This may not sound like a remarkable run. Last week, however, the sixth album by the Mark Knopfler-led group reached a remarkable milestone when the set was certified 24 times platinum, meaning over 360,000 copies have been sold in New Zealand since its release in 1985.

The New Singles
#2 Akon featuring Eminem - Smack That
Senegalian Akon follows his #38 Girls collaboration with Beenie Man, by hooking up with the recently ‘retired’ Eminem and rockets straight into #2 with the lead single from his sophomore album Konvicted. Already Smack That is #1 in the UK and looks set to join his two previous chart-toppers here - Lonely and Moonshine (with Savage).

#24 Lily Allen - LDN
Due here for the Big Day Out in January, Cockney songstress Lily Allen racks up her second New Zealand hit LDN from her debut set Alright, Still (#22 peak), following the #6 hit Smile a couple of months back.

The New Albums
#1 the feelers - One World
See story above.

#14 Moby - Go: The Very Best Of Moby
Richard Melville Hall’s first charting album, Play from 1999, spent six weeks at #1 and was the second best selling set of 2000. Follow up 18 also topped the list. Moby’s last charting set here was last year’s Hotel, and now his first hits compile is new at #14.

#15 The Game - Doctor’s Advocate
The Game’s sophomore album Doctor's Advocate is new at #15 and reads like a hip hop who’s who. It features production by Kanye West, Dr Dre, Will.I.Am, Scott Storch and Hi-Tek, along with guest vocalists Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Busta Rhymes, Jamie Foxx & Nate Dogg. The West Coast rapper’s debut set The Documentary peaked at #3 in February last year. Lead single It’s Okay (One Blood) currently sits at #25 on the Singles chart.

#18 George Michael - Twenty Five
The title alludes to the fact that George Michael has been in the biz now for a quarter of a century. Firstly as half of the duo Wham! (with Andrew Ridgeley) and then as a soloist. This is his second solo hits compile and follows the #3 Ladies And Gentlemen: The Best Of George Michael from November 1998. George has had four #1 albums here - Fantastic (1983), Make It Big (1984) and The Final (1986) as part of Wham!, then Older (1996) having gone solo. There have been two #1 singles - Wham!’s I’m Your Man (‘86) and solo Faith (‘87).

#23 JJ Cale & Eric Clapton - The Road To Escondido
Chart veterans JJ Cale and Eric Clapton have both had #1 singles (Cocaine for JJ and I Shot The Sheriff and Tears In Heaven for Eric), and Eric’s recorded several of JJ’s tunes, so it’s only natural that they should finally record together. The Road To Escondido is the result and is new at #23.

#30 Josh Groban - Awake
Twenty-four-year-old LA native Josh Groban lands his third New Zealand hit album and his first in three years as Awake debuts at #30. His self-titled debut set hit #4 in April 2002 while the sophomore Closer peaked at #39 in December 2003.
