The Warehouse ‘Light Up Your Home’ competition entry deadline extended

Will anyone be able to beat last year’s The Warehouse Light Up Your Home Christmas lights competition winner – a house decorated so brightly that it could be seen on the flight path to Christchurch?

The Warehouse has given more time for Christmas light enthusiasts to create their dazzling displays to rival last year’s by extending the deadline for its annual ‘Light Up Your Home’ Christmas lights competition to Tuesday 12 December.

The 2005 winners - the Anderson family of Kaiapoi - created a spectacular display of light and sound that took two full weeks to completely set up. An extravaganza which included homemade lights and decorations, it attracted busloads of onlookers and carol singers who would gather outside the house each night in the lead up to Christmas.

“We’ve extended the entry deadline to Tuesday 12 December to give people extra time to get their entries in,” says Cynthia Church, Corporate Affairs Manager at The Warehouse. “It’s such a popular competition and we know that there are some entrants who need just a few more days to get everything perfect.”

“The Andersons really set the bar high last year, and will be a tough house to beat this time around. But judging by the entries we’ve received so far, I’m sure that Kiwis are more than ready to battle for the Light Up Your Home crown,” says Cynthia.

The 2006 national winner and five runners up will be announced Monday 18 December. The national winner receives $10,000 to spend at The Warehouse and the five runners up each receive $500 to spend at The Warehouse.

Entrants are required to purchase at least one type of Christmas lights from The Warehouse to enter. Along with the entry form, contestants send photos of their home decorated for the festive season and will be judged on their creative flair and effort.
