Million dollar music at Myers Park

AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL

MEDIA RELEASE

13 December 2006

Million dollar music at Myers Park

Kick start your new year with a sensational line-up of Kiwi bands at Myers Park 07 on Sunday, 7 January.

Auckland City's free Music in Parks concert features sets from One Million Dollars, Tommy and Twin Set at Myers Park (central city) from 2pm-6pm.

One Million Dollars is an Auckland-based soul-jazz collective with a reputation for energetic live performances. Their sound combines elements of 70s soul, funk and bossa nova, built around the song writing skills of singer/guitarist Richard Setford.

Over the past few years the ten-piece band have shared the bill with other top kiwi acts including Fat Freddy's Drop, Che Fu, Goldenhorse and Stellar*. With four horns, multipart vocals and all original songs, One Million Dollars bring a fresh, funky sound to this year’s Myers Park line up.

Twinset will bring a unique jazz sound to the 3,000 plus crowd expected at Myers Park this year. The three-piece Wellington band consisting of organ, drums, saxophone, with a vocalist or two thrown in, have perfected their original variation on the organ combo with twin brothers Daniel and Christopher Yeabsley backed up by Paul Hoskin steering the groove on the drums.

A true melting pot of musical genres is the best way to describe Tommy. The band brings together reggae, rock, soul and a dash of pop in a melodic mix. Their 'folk roots' sound comfortably sits alongside the music of Jack Johnson and The John Butler Trio. Tommy's sound is rooted in soothing melodies and flowing piano lines which create an organic blend that is unmistakably Aoteoroa.
