Jingle Tills
Ka-ching, Christmas is here and music sales start to reach their yearly yuletide peak. Singles Chart aside, it’s steady as she goes on most of the charts with very little change in position - but the unit numbers have shown the expected seasonal increases.
U2 increase their tally, going triple platinum, to regain the #1 spot ahead of last week’s chart-topper Brooke Fraser.
Compilations wise Now 22 gains more ground at the top, certified four times platinum this week, however The Best Christmas Album In The World ...Ever is lining up to challenge for the Comps Chrissie #1, a position the double set’s held in past years.
U2 continues to dominate the DVD list as 18 Videos racks up the double with the albums survey.
Interestingly, the Irish super group have scored the Christmas #1 here several times before, and 18 Singles looks set to become their fourth following Rattle And Hum in 1988, The Best Of 1990-2000 in 2002 and How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb in 2004.

Snoopy’s Back
Will we have a festive tune at #1 for the third year in a row?
2004 was Band Aid 20’s Do They Know It’s Christmas? take Christmas #1 honours. Last year the traditional Jingle Bells was given the amphibian treatment and its first hit version and Christmas #1 by Crazy Frog. The former tadpole is off to a slower start this year with the Wham! Last Christmas make-over (which actually features non beeping vocals!), up six places to #19.
A more likely festive carol to move into the top spot would be the yo-yo-ing Snoopy’s Christmas revamp by Cantabs The Wobbles. In 1967 The Royal Guardsmen’s original outsold all-comers and ruled the festive roost.
Can Snoopy lightning strike twice? The remake jumps straight back in at #2 for Captain Wobble, Crazy Wobble, Moose Wobble, Westy Wobble, Sammy the dog and Trevor the goat, who are currently touring the South Island having played at Westfield Riccarton in Christchurch this past weekend. There’s a Wobbles TV show in the works as well.

The New Singles
#9 Nelly Furtado - Say It Right
Loose becomes Portuguese-Canadian Nelly Furtado’s most successful album singles wise, yielding its third hit for 2006 and her seventh overall. Say It Right takes highest new entry honours straight in at #9, making it a 2006 hat-trick (Promiscuous reached #1 and Maneater #2).

#11 JoJo - Too Little Too Late
Another year, another hit. That’s the way it goes for JoJo Noëlle Levesque, who turns 16 today (December 20), and gains her third New Zealand hit in three years. 2004 it was the #2 Leave (Get Out), last year the #3 with Bow Wow, Baby It’s You, and now it’s the #11 Too Little, Too Late, lifted from JoJo’s sophomore release The High Road.

#18 Cassie - Long Way 2 Go
American model Cassie continues her runway-less move into singing with the second cut from her self-titled Cassie debut, new at #18. Long Way 2 Go follows the #4 Me & U.

#27 Razorlight - America
London-formed Anglo-Swedish quartet Razorlight formed in 2002 and rack up their first Kiwi hit with their former UK #1 America. Culled from their sophomore self titled album, it’s new at #27. The group are Johnny Borrell, Björn Ågren, Carl Dalemo and Andy Burrows.

#29 The Fray - How To Save A Life
Denver, Colorado, natives The Fray played a one-off New Zealand gig a couple of months back when their first hit Over My Head (Cable Car) reached #25. Now their second, and title track to their debut album How To Save A Life, is new at #29.

#33 Snoop Dogg featuring R Kelly - That’s That
R&B chart vets Snoop Dogg and R Kelly collaborate for the lead single from Snoop’s recent #20 set Tha Blue Carpet Treatment. New at #33, That’s That is Snoop’s seventh collaborative hit this century. He shared billing on the Pussycat Dolls’ Buttons chart-topper earlier in the year, and along with Pharrell, he topped the list two Christmases back with Drop It Like It’s Hot. Robert Kelly is a 14-year chart vet here and along the way he’s been two #1 twice, with I Believe I Can Fly and Ignition Remix.

#40 Fergie - Fergalicious
Stacey Fergusson follows her debut solo #1 London Bridge with Fergalicious, the second track culled from her solo debut. The Black Eyed Pea member is signed to band mate Will.I.Am’s record label.
