New Mini Park for Mountain Bike Season

A mini bike park with berms, ramps, seesaws and jumps is to open at Coronet Peak Bike Park tomorrow (January 3) along with the new downhill cross country trail and the 2007 bike season.

The mini bike park provides a perfect introduction to mountain biking and provides fun and thrills for all riders said Coronet Peak Operations Manager Alli Edwards.

“The mini park appeals to all ages and offers riders an introduction to the sport or the opportunity to sharpen up before moving on to more advanced trails," she said.

Situated on the beginners slope in front of the sundeck, the new trail is wide and smooth and has lots of features.

Also new at the Coronet Peak Bike Park is a 4.2km downhill cross country track which will complement the existing world class 1.6 km downhill single track.

The two month season runs from tomorrow January 3 until February 28. The park will operate 7 days a week from 11:00am to 7:00pm subject to weather conditions.

“What’s great about this year is that we now have terrain available for all levels, from amateurs through to elite riders. People can get their wheels off the ground or not and either way there’s fabulous riding in a stunning scenic environment.”

And, there’s no uphill because access back to the top is by the Coronet Express Quad chairlift.

Highlight events of the season include the 2007 New Zealand Community Trust MTB National Series from 12th – 14th January and the 6-hour adrenalin packed Super D Endurance Race on Saturday 3rd February. For more info on both of these events see – www.bikenz.org.nz & www.adventuresourced.co.nz

A range of adult bike rentals will be available at the base area operated in conjunction with Outside Sports.

Coffee, light meals, beer or wine will be served at the Coronet Peak Brasserie and there’s seating on the sundeck for those who want to take in the action from a safe distance or take part in a life sized game of chess on the giant chess set.

Season passes are available at $249 adult and $199 youth. A special deal is available to 2006 nzski season passes holders at $149 adult and $99 youth. The passes are available through eBuy, nzski’s secure online season pass shop at www.nzski.com.

Day passes are priced at $30 adult and $20 youth or $125 and $80 respectively for a book of 5 x Anytime passes. Single ride sightseeing passes are available for $15 adult and $10 youth. These passes can be purchased at Coronet Peak or downtown at selected information centres and bike shops.

A daily shuttle transport service to Coronet Peak will run from the Station Building at 11:00am, 1:00pm and 4:00pm. For riders not cycling back into town, the return transport leaves Coronet Peak at 12:30pm, 3:30pm and 7:00pm. The service cost $10 per adult and $5 per child each way.
