Lilyworld, It’s A Big Day Out Institution

Lilyworld, It’s A Big Day Out Institution That Should Be Institutionalised

Every year the freaks keep coming back. Admit it, Lilyworld, formerly known as the Lilypad when it was just a nipper, is the funnest place to spend some time at the Big Day Out.

DUCKPOND, LARRY KRONICK, HEAVY G AND CHRISTO invite you to their recycled-junk-filled, goon friendly eco island; a green world of legends, loons and lovers!! The props are recycled, and so are the gags (nothing new there!). We will be creating and promoting the unpredictable antics which made the Lilypad infamous, and in between we've got an array of local and international talent.

On the Lilyworld 2007, listen up for the wisdom of the Jah Messenger LUCIANO (Jamaica). Renowned worldwide for his rasta message of love and peace set to irresistible melodies and mellow, soulful vocals, LUCIANO will tantalize LILYWORLD immigrants with his wit, charisma and good vibes. Accompanying LUCIANO is reggae warrior MIKEY GENERAL whose uplifting roots reggae sounds have been floating like a warm breeze across the sands of the music scene for over 20 years. Warming up the stage for LUCIANO will be legendary selector RICKY TROOPER (ex Killamanjaro) who will take sound followers on an excursion to speaker box central with the legendary Jamaican SOUND TROOPER SOUND SYSTEM.

BIG DAY OUT and literature have never been used in the same sentence before, but 2007 sees these two come together in a cutting edge fashion (hopefully). All the way from Manchester, comes a true poet laureate, The Bard of Salford, JOHN COOPER CLARKE (UK). Taking a leaf out of Kerouac and Ginsberg, peer to punk's legends, a forebear of Billy Bragg and The Streets, JOHN COOPER CLARKE speaks with the rhythms of rock'n'roll, and will bring summer to a standstill with his confrontational, furiously funny and jaw-droppingly real performances.

Also making a guest appearance is AFRA & INCREDIBLE BEATBOX BAND (JAPAN): three men, three mics, no decks, and a fat-ass, old school block party vibe, Japan's good-time beatboxing contribution to the international hip hop world, will work it as special guests on the LILYWORLD stage.

Lilyworld welcomes THAT 1 GUY, (a.k.a Mike Silverman) (USA), a one-man band straight outta your imagination who plays a home made, seven foot tall, metallic Magic Pipe which he claims has a limitless harmonic, sonic and rhythmic range. Be prepared for an infectious and wildly innovative show, twisting up some funky bass-n-drum grooves to get you nodding your head and shifting your weight from one foot to the other at the BDO.

One of the most influential artists in the Pacific, New Zealand's own KING KAPISI joins the united nations of LILYWOLRD. Festival favourite in NZ and around the world KING KAPISI will be mixing rhymes and beats to usher in a new resolution in Samoan hip hop. (All Shows)
