Five young racing and rally drivers win Prime Minister’s Athlete Scholarships
Five young motor racing and rally drivers have been granted Prime Minister’s Athlete Scholarships, providing them with study grants during 2007. Last year two scholarships were granted to motorsport drivers.
Two of the five 2007 winners, rally drivers Emma Gilmour of Dunedin and Lee-Anne Barns of Auckland also received grants last year. Barns will complete a personal trainer course and Gilmour has yet to confirm what she will undertake this year.
The new recipients are racing driver Sam MacNeill of Palmerston North, rally driver Hayden Paddon from Geraldine and champion rally co-driver Sara Randall of Masterton.
Access to extramural study will enable MacNeill to start his BBS, and Randall to almost complete her accounting degree at Massey University while Paddon will start a Diploma in Business through the Open Polytechnic.
