Since UK/NZ band Pig Out formed in
Christchurch in March 2006 they
have toured New Zealand
relentlessly, been interviewed on C4TV's
Intellectual
Property, and in November released their debut
album
'Club Poems' on Pinacolada Records. 'Club Poems'
shot to critical
acclaim receiving nothing less than
outstanding reviews, Real Groove
magazine's Album Of The
Month and voted no.10 in Real Groove's top 50
albums of
2006. They have recently secured Australian management
and
will be touring and releasing and e.p. of new tracks
in Australia on
new label Simpatico this March. The band,
have also been invited to
showcase in Austin, Texas at
SXSW in 2007 .
The members of Pig Out have been in various
bands in both Europe and
New Zealand over the past decade
and share a love of house, rave,
funk, electronica and
post punk. The band's name refers to the
excitement and
exuberance the music embodies.
Word of mouth, radio
airplay and the bands intense live performances
have
given Pig Out a reputation as one of the best live acts in
the
country. Their mix of programmed and live
instruments enables them to
build intensity in a way that
owes more to a DJ than a traditional
live band, although
their rare communicative ability engages the
audience in
a way DJ's rarely do. They are as assured playing a
two
hour set in a club at 2am as they are in a
traditional live music
venue.

REVIEW EXCERPTS
'Out of
nowhere New Zealand's finest live dance-punk band have
made
the best techno album to come out of this country
ever, not to mention
the best local diorama of the
politics of partying your likely to see
outside of hip
hop.' 5/5 and Album Of The Month. + Voted No 10 in Top
50
for 2006.
Real Groove Magazine - November 2006
"It's
house music? But? What? Pig Out manage to get this so
totally
fucking bang on because they aren't pretending -
this is genuine and
it goes to illustrate perfectly,
indie is not a fucking genre - it's
an attitude. This IS
indie-house. Trust me I am old enough to
appreciate where
they are coming from - and this kicks as much serious
ass
as the original groundbreaking stuff from Chicago circa
1986-89."
www.cheeseontoast.co.nz - November 2006
'Pig
Out recombine the kraut-funk of Happy Mondays and The Fall
with
the test tones of Sheffield bleep'n'bass, the primal
urgency of
Factory bands Section 25 and A Certain Ratio
and the rough repetitive
synth lines of early Chicago
house. Pig Out have an urgency and
hunger hitherto
unknown to these shores. "We're called Pig Out and
we've
come to do your brain in," promises Lawrence. It's about
time.'
Pavement Magazine - August 2006
'The greatest
live act to pounce on Christchurch!'
RDU 98.5 - April
2006
