Scanlan added to Silver Ferns Squad

Netball New Zealand has confirmed today former Silver Fern defender Sheryl Scanlan (Force) has been added to the current Silver Ferns Squad after impressing National Selectors by showing outstanding form at the recent Silver Ferns training camps.

Scanlan who debuted for the Silver Ferns in 2000, last played for the Silver Ferns in 2005 before taking time out to have her first baby.

National Selectors felt Scanlan’s performances as a training partner at both the Silver Ferns camp in December 2006 and last weekends training camp had warranted her re-call to the Squad.

Silver Ferns Coach Ruth Aitken said Scanlan had taken the opportunities presented to her and proven herself in the Silver Ferns Squad environment.

“Sheryl has put in the hard work over the last six months and has shown she has both the drive and determination to make it back into the Squad. She provides valuable options in defence and the experience she brings with her (42 caps) is a boost for the Squad,” she said.
