$7.3 million Powerball Win Over Sevens Weekend

As the New Zealand Sevens team exit the IRB Sevens tournament at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington a Powerball player in Wanganui has just claimed a $7.3 million victory, says NZ Lotteries Chief Executive, Todd McLeay.

Tonight's winning Powerball ticket was purchased at Aramaho Mags & Lotto, in Wanganui and is worth a total of $7,812,344, with $7,312,344 from winning Powerball First Division and a further $500,000 from also winning Lotto First Division.

"This weekend it's definitely Lucky Number Seven for our $7.3 million Powerball winner as the IRB Sevens tournament parties on in Wellington," says Mr McLeay.

2006 was quite a year for Lotto Powerball winners with a ticket sold in Kaeo, Northland in May, making its owners the biggest single winners of any NZ Lotteries game after they took home $18 million. A South Auckland family took home just shy of $10 million, and a Nelson man won $6.9 million in October. In total, 10 people won Lotto Powerball in 2006 taking home prizes ranging from $1.25 million to $18 million.

One other Lotto ticket, purchased at Waiuku Paper Plus in Waiuku, Auckland has also won Lotto First Division, winning $500,000.

Lotto Strike Four has jackpotted to a huge $500,000 next week.

Tonight's Winning Wheel ticket was sold by Turenne Dairy & Coffee Shop, Akaroa. The serial number is 523-65909556-20XX

All Lotto players are automatically in the draw to win the opportunity to spin Lotto's Winning Wheel, regardless of the type of ticket they buy. Players can check their ticket at any lottery outlet.

"Anyone who bought their ticket from any of these winning stores should write their name on the back of the ticket and check it immediately at any NZ Lotteries outlet," Mr McLeay says.
