Sealord Night with the Stars
Sealord Night with the Stars, Saxton Field, Nelson, Saturday 17 February 7.30pm
Nelsonians are urged to make the most of pre-sales for Sealord Night with the Stars at Saxton Field on Saturday night.
Nelson City Council festival director Annabel Norman says with settled weather forecast it is going to be a big event.
“If they don’t want to queue at the gate people should get their tickets in the next day or two - it’ll be another year before there’s an offer like this - a fantastic line up of opera singers, kiwi music icon Sir Howard Morrison and the Vector Wellington Orchestra all for just ten dollars.”
This year the printed programme for the event is the city council’s own fortnightly publication, Live Nelson. People can take their copy from home or pick up a copy at the event. 3000 extras have been printed for Night with the Stars.
“We see this as a great way to profile the council involvement with this major outdoor event,” said Public Communications Manager Penny Bloomberg. “For people from outside the city it’s a chance to see what else is going on with city council news at this time.”
Sealord Night with the Stars continues in the tradition of Pavarotti concerts that mix opera arias with performances by popular music greats. The concert features sisters Helen and Margaret Medlyn, with tenor Patrick Power.
Musical Director Peter Rainey says having the Vector Wellington Orchestra here for the first time may be the start of an ongoing connection: ‘They are our closest regional professional orchestra - conductor Marc Taddei has just moved there from Christchurch and is keen to do more performances in Nelson.
