HSBC Round the Bays is Open for Entries

A lazy Sunday morning it is not to be. On Sunday 18 March, tens of thousands of Aucklanders taking part in HSBC Round the Bays will be opting for a grueling fun run in place of their usual weekend routine.

Each year the event attracts over 40,000 registered participants, and many more spectators. These include children, adults, parents, grandparents, and people of all ages and walks of life, who choose to run, walk or even wheelchair, the 8.4km route along Auckland’s waterfront.

Rated one of the largest fun runs in the world, cash raised by the event is also contributed towards four children’s charities: this year, Jump Rope for Health, the Gifted Kids Programme, Riding for the Disabled, and the National Burns Centre (Middlemore).

Norman Wilson, Chief Executive of HSBC, which has sponsored Round the Bays for three years in a row, says the bank takes great pride in its involvement with events that make a difference to the city.

“HSBC Round the Bays demonstrates a real sense of community.” says Norman Wilson, CEO HSBC New Zealand. “The enthusiasm of all of the participants, the number of people taking part, the exceptional way the event is run and the fact that money raised goes to charity, makes HSBC Round the Bays a world-class community event,”

HSBC Round the Bays has been an annual event in Auckland since 1972, when it was initiated by the Auckland Joggers Club. The first run attracted 1,200 participants and today it has grown to be one of the world’s largest fun-runs, with over 47,000 registered runners and an estimated 70,000 participants in total. The run begins in the city on Quay St and finishes on the waterfront at St Heliers Bay.

Sponsors include HSBC, Provenco Technology, Coca-Cola Amatil New Zealand, Watercare Services Limited, Alto and Mainfreight.
