Maori Television Broadcasts 2007 Touch Nationals
New Zealand’s largest team sport is under the spotlight when Maori Television broadcasts exclusive coverage of the NEW ZEALAND TOUCH NATIONALS 2007 on Sunday March 11 and 18 at 2.00 PM.
A two-hour highlights programme this Sunday March 11 – presented by Te Arahi Maipi and former Kiwi touch representative Ritchie Barnett – will focus on the Open Men’s, Women’s, Mixed and Under 21 Men’s finals.
The competition began last Saturday March 3 at Auckland’s North Harbour Stadium and ends today (March 6).
Next, the finals of the Masters national championship – which starts this Thursday March 8 and ends on Saturday March 10 – will also screen on Maori Television on Sunday March 18.
Touch New Zealand chief executive Dale Stephens says the televised highlights from the Masters tournament will be a first for any broadcaster.
As well as this coverage, Maori Television’s top-rating sports entertainment show CODE will host the captain of the New Zealand mixed squad, Steve Wall, this Thursday March 8 at 8.30 PM.
“Maori Television had always planned to broadcast news coverage of the nationals,” Dale Stephens says.
“Their offer to provide this comprehensive coverage has been a real bonus and we look forward to seeing the final result with their unique style.”
Touch has a current membership base of 106,000 including 68,000 adults and 38,000 junior and youth players. Statistics show that 317,000 New Zealanders play the sport.
Catch the NEW ZEALAND TOUCH NATIONALS 2007 – only on Maori Television – on Sunday March 11 and 18 at 2.00 PM.
