Over the past decade, the scienticians down in the Radio One laboratories have been working endlessly to build the legacy that is Onefest. From the tiny acorn of an all night booze fest, Onefest grew to a week-long behemoth celebrating the hottest bands and DJs in Aotearoa. In 2007, Onefest is expanding: six epic nights of aural indulgence will be spread over the year, kicking off with the Onefest Series Big Bang Launch Party on Friday March 30th.

This will be the greatest year long party in the history of popular music, and to show you how serious they are, Radio One have spared nothing to bring you an incredible party good time to kick it all off – please allow them to introduce, live and direct from California USA, Expansion Team Soundsystem.

DJ Babu and MC Rakaa Iriscience exist in the upper echelons of the hip-hop world. As two thirds of legendary conscious hip-hop outfit Dilated Peoples, these two party starters craft a mix of block rocking, booty shaking beats and intelligent vocals for a full-on dancefloor hit, sans ghetto gangster posturing.

Babu is one of the planet’s finest turntablists, without a shadow of a doubt. As part of the epic DJ crew the Beat Junkies, Babu ‘pon the ones and twos is an adventure in intergalactic communication, taking you to distant frontiers of sonic manipulation. Rakaa has laid down vocal cuts for luminaries on both sides of the Atlantic, from Dilated Peoples, of course, through to The Herbaliser and DJ Vadim. Together, they are Expansion Team Soundsystem – a formidable force bringing smiles to dancefloors everywhere. Their last jaunt to New Zealand was one of the most talked about tours of 2005, so Radio One is proud as punch to bring them back to Dunedin.

Alongside the goodies from the US West Coast, Radio One puts you in the capable hands of two of Dunedin’s finest young gentleman disc jockeys. Dunedin institution, turntable legend and hip-hop god DJ Shan (S.A.S) is on the mix, cut up and destroy, as well as Dunedin’s tallest vinyl trainspotter, Boof. Bringing the magic direct from the golden era.

You could pay assloads of cash to get yourself into this truly incredible hip-hop experience. Radio One will let you in for the paltry sum of $30.
