Greater Expectations
Penguin Group (NZ) are proud to announce that Lloyd Jones’ Mister Pip is the winner of the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best Book in the South East Asia and South Pacific region. Jones now goes through to the final phase of the competition where an international judging panel in Jamaica will decide the overall winner for Best Book on 27 May 2007.
Geoff Walker, Jones’ publisher at Penguin Group (NZ), says that the award is ‘further evidence that Mister Pip is a novel of the very highest quality’. Penguin Group NZ extend their warmest congratulations to Lloyd on this great news.
Jones says ‘I am very happy. I've never been to Jamaica before and I can't think of a better reason to have to visit.'
The success of Mister Pip continues to grow and Walker predicts that when Mister Pip is published soon in the UK, USA and many other countries ‘it could well be one of the big international novels of 2007’. Jones’ literary agent, Michael Gifkins, adds that the success of Mister Pip has meant that all of Jones’ previous novels are now ‘experiencing worldwide demand’.
