Scouting Awards recognise outstanding voluntary leadership
29 March 2007
Scouting New Zealand is recognising and rewarding a number of Volunteer Scout Leaders for their outstanding contribution to the Movement, at a series of events across New Zealand.
The Awards include:
Leader
Service
Chief Scout Commendation
Medal of
Merit
Bronze Tiki
Silver Tiki
Bar to
the Silver Tiki
Silver Tui
To qualify, the recipients must have given at least three years good service and undertaken appropriate training for the appointment which they hold. The top Scouting award, the Silver Tui, is an award for services of an outstanding character and is made by the Chief Scout of New Zealand.
Scouting CEO Geoff Knighton says major events such as jamborees, regattas, national mudslides, national schools and an almost endless list of activities involving literally thousands of people take a great deal of organisation.
“It is to the great credit of those Scout Leaders, parents and volunteers that these events are safe, challenging and a lot of fun. It is this sort of professional leadership, logistical control and loyalty which is being recognised and rewarded through these presentations, and we are proud to congratulate the recipients of each award.”
This year marks the 100th year of the Scouting Movement and the 150th anniversary of the birth of Scouting’s founder, Lord Robert Baden-Powell.
Scouting membership enquiries in 2007 have shown a strong increase over previous years, due in part to the range of new programmes which have been adopted nationally.
