Inside The Creative Mind
Inside The Creative Mind
Audiences will gain a fascinating insight into some of New Zealand’s most respected creative minds, from Arts Laureates to Hollywood stars, during the Writers, Artists and Ideas programme at this year’s Festival of Colour in Lake Wanaka from 24-29 April.
Leading New Zealand artists Michel Tuffery and John Reynolds (Arts Laureate) talk about how they approach their own work and what they value in the work of other artists in But is it art?, a discussion on the more abstract forms of art.
The gruff Southern Man stereotype in his Swanndri is familiar to most New Zealanders but is there more to him – and what of the Southern Woman? Two men of the south, Bill Manhire (poet and professor brought up in the pubs of Southland) and Tahu Potitki, best known for his work with Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu, will be joined by merino farmer, Christine Fernyhough to discuss these stereotypes in what promises to be a lively debate.
Two of New Zealand’s greatest pianists, Michael Houstoun and Mike Nock, will talk together about their different disciplines, Jazz and Classical. If jazz for Mike Nock is “thinking aloud on the piano”, is classical a matter of repeating someone else’s thoughts?
Two of New Zealand’s most celebrated writers, Oscar Kightley (Arts Laureate) and Dave Armstrong, will talk about how they harness the power of laughter in Writing for stage and screen. With works like Sione’s Wedding, Bro’town, The Tutor and Seven Periods with Mr Gormsby, this is sure to be an entertaining 90 minutes, ably chaired by actor, Sam Neill.
Tickets to the Writers, Artists and Ideas programme are $5 on the door of the Infinity Crystal Palace. For further information, visit www.festivalofcolour.co.nz.
