Kiwi Littlies to Star in Nick Jr TV Show!

Nickelodeon is calling out for New Zealand pre-schoolers to become television stars for a day, in PICME, a new animation series premiering on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 13th (Nickelodeon, Channel 41, SKY TV).

The unique animated series features the face of a Kiwi toddler who becomes the main character in a bright and colourful five-minute episode, screening for 1 week throughout the Nick Jr programme schedule.

The PICME “star for the day” is part of an entertaining and educational story featuring a range of animal friends who embark on exciting adventures. From Gerty a giraffe who likes to clean, to Neville a big blue jolly elephant, these friendly characters steer the narrative and help to create a magical world.

“This is a revolutionary way of interacting with our youngest viewers,” says Lauren Nola, Marketing Manager for Nickelodeon NZ. “Pre-schoolers literally get to see themselves on television which is going to be very exciting for them and the entire family.

Parents, who’d like their child to be the PICME star for the day, simply need to post a snap shot of their littlie to Nickelodeon NZ via email or through the post. There’s hints on how take a clear shot which is suitable for the animated show on www.nicknz.co.nz/nickjr/whats_on.html.

“We will be looking for just over one hundred Kiwi pre-schoolers to take part in the PICME series,” says Lauren Nola. “PICME will screen from May throughout 2007 with each episode featuring a new star for the day.

“We expect that there will be quite a lot of interest in the show.”

As with all Nick Jr shows PICME is designed both to entertain pre-schoolers and to teach. Each episode is tailored to introduce basic concepts ranging from colour and shape recognition to logic and critical thinking.

PICME launches on Nickelodeon NZ, Sunday May 13.
