Water quality, rights and environmental issues will be at the forefront of the Taiao Hui A Iwi and will include field trips to Lake Poukawa, Water testing, assessing the cultural health of waterways, organic and biodynamic farming and making ointments using traditional Maori plants.
Morry Black, Ngati Kahungunu environmentalist, said, “Choosing local supplier, Aquafern, to provide water and water-bottles for the Hui A Iwi participants made sense. Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Inc wanted to ensure our supply was local and of the best possible quality. Aquafern also presented a unique opportunity through providing customised labels on water bottles to promote Ngati Kahungunu Iwi, our conference and the local Aquafern water together”.
The 1800s saw the first wells draw water up from the Heretaunga plains aquifer in Hawke's Bay. William Clark was a pioneering well-sinker in the region at that time.
It's no coincidence then,
that his great, great grandson (Mike Clark) should be the
first to draw and bottle pure water from the same source.
“Over 45 metres below ground, the Heretaunga plains
confined aquifer preserves the purity and clarity of our
wonderful water. Once the water rises to the surface it is
filtered and bottled at our modern facility.
Aquafern®
is the result. The water is now, as it was then, one of the
world's purest. Renown for what’s not in it, rather than
what is,” said Mike Clark.
Aquafern supports the Hawke's Bay kiwi breeding and recovery programme and is providing the water for participants at the Taiao Hui A Iwi to be held at Te Aute College 20th and 21st April. ENDS
