The New Zealand Film Archive has extended the Artist’s Film Festival until April 20. Originally scheduled to close on the 14th the shows collection of 20 video works by new New Zealand Artists has proven such a hit the Archive has chosen to extend it's run by another week. In celebration the NZFA presents a special one-off event;
Art–Archivists Talk: An Introduction to Artists holdings at the New Zealand Film Archive
The Film Archive
is not only a storehouse of artists film and video, but also
publicity materials, programmes, media clippings,
unpublished papers and books. Cataloguer Kathy Dudding and
Documentation Manager Kristen Wineera give an overview of
artists holdings in the Film Archive collection. Included in
the talk are several items that shed light on the
development of art practise and public exhibition in New
Zealand, including the controversial opening of the Govett
Brewster Art Gallery in 1970, and the development of artists
film co-operative Alternative Cinema.
