18 triathletes get chance to train with the best

Eighteen triathletes of all abilities have won the rare opportunity for a full training day with New Zealand’s triathlon champion, Bevan Docherty, courtesy of Contact Energy.

The training day will be tomorrow, Saturday 21 April, starting at 9am at Mecca Café, 44 Tamaki Drive, Mission Bay. Bevan Docherty and his Olympic coach, Mark Elliot, will host the training day.

"Bevan’s in great form at the moment and the chance to spend a whole day training with him is a great opportunity for these 18 triathletes to learn from a triathlon legend," said Contact Energy Communications Manager, Jonathan Hill.

Contact is the principal sponsor of both Bevan Docherty and the new Contact Energy national triathlon series. The 18 winners of the training day have all competed at some level in the Contact Energy series.

"The Contact Energy national triathlon series has been a huge success and a real boost for New Zealand’s fastest growing sport. It’s fantastic to be able to wrap up the series with this training day for these 18 competitors," said Mr Hill.

The training day will kick off with Mark and Bevan leading a ride around the waterfront and into the hills of Auckland, followed by a run and drills at Oraki Reserve. At 12.15 Bevan will speak on training tips and his international experiences over lunch at Mecca Café, followed by a swim session at the Olympic Pools and Fitness Centre at 1.45pm.

Bevan Docherty has just returned to New Zealand from Japan, where he finished second on the World Cup ITU circuit.
