ANZAC Web Links for Tomorrows Day of Rememberance

MEDIA ALERT: 24 April 2007

ANZAC Web Links for Tomorrows Day of Rememberance

Tomorrow is ANZAC day and The Auckland War Memorial Museum is proud to present the public with a new ANZAC web gallery and access to the cenotaph database which offers extensive personal detail about the life and military careers of 35,000 New Zealande service people who have died. Both of these web links have images, information and links to other related online resources that honour those who have given their lives in service.

The Cenotaph database can be accessed by visiting http://www.aucklandmuseum.com/?t=850. This database already consists of 35,000 records, many of which include a portrait taken from published sources or supplied by family members. The Museum draws information from a range of published sources and from the Museum Library’s manuscripts collection and references to personal items on display in the Scars on the Heart galleries. Images and links to other related online resources such as the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Debt of Honour database and the personnel files held at Archives New Zealand are also available at this web page.

A comprehensive image gallery of over 260 ANZAC images from the Museums vast archive is also available at the ANZAC Web Gallery http://www.aucklandmuseum.com/?t=984

ANZAC DAY celebrations commence at 6am on Wednesday 25th of April with a Dawn Service at the Cenotaph. The two halls of memory, Scars on the Heart Gallery and exhibitions: Lee Millers War and Towards the Precipice: Propaganda Posters, open immediately after the dawn service. The whole Museum facility opens at 12pm with a full programme of events running through until closing at 5pm. The Dome will be accessible to the public from 2pm.

For the full programme of ANZAC day events visit http://www.aucklandmuseum.com/?t=958

No donation for entry will be asked for on ANZAC day.
