Mother's Day Present Wins Levin $7.5 Million Lotto Powerball

For the second time this week, a Mother's Day present has netted the recipients $7.5 million, with a mother claiming the Levin Lotto Powerball prize today, says NZ Lotteries' Chief Executive, Todd McLeay.

The ticket, purchased at Levin Mall Lotto, was given to the winners by a family member, winning a total of $7,575,893, with $7,288,657 from winning Powerball First Division, and a further $287,236 from also winning Lotto First Division.

"We watched the draw on Saturday, I marked off my ticket and it wasn't a winner," said one of the winners.

"But then my wife, who was checking her ticket, said 'Oh, I haven't got the Bonus number.' I looked at her ticket and said 'Yeah, but you've got the rest and the Powerball!"

The winners, who wish to remain anonymous, are a family from Palmerston North who plan to sit tight on their winnings for the moment.

"We're not going to touch it for a while, we're not really the type to go wild with special treats – though we may think about it later," said the winners.

The win is the twelfth-equal highest amount won on Lotto Powerball in New Zealand, with the winners sharing the spot with the Christchurch family who claimed their half of last week's Lotto Powerball prize on Monday.
