New Zealand needs to pucker up
Latin lovers we’re not if a new survey is anything to go by. New Zealand may be more culturally diverse in the 21st century but conservative social mores remain a big part of our lives.
The Arnott’s Love Potions Public Displays of Affection (PDA) survey carried out in early May suggests we’ve got a long way to go to catch the more romantic nations.
The survey reveals that while 59 per cent of us are comfortable showing affection in public, generally, people feel uncomfortable engaging in PDA stronger than a kiss on cheek.
The most popular form of PDA is holding hands – for nearly six out of 10 of us it’s our favourite way. Hugging rates 24 per cent, a peck on the cheek 14 per cent and a full on pash only three per cent.
Interestingly, almost 50 per cent of us who PDA on a daily basis, think it’s not often enough.
The survey was conducted by Arnott’s in advance of New Zealand’s first ever PDA Day on May 27 to launch the company’s new Tim Tam Love Potions.
Teams of photographers are going to be out and about in public places on May 27 in Auckland, Palmerston North, Wellington and Christchurch looking for public displays of affection.
The Arnott’s Tim Tam Love Potions PDA Day is being commemorated in celebration of the company’s new chocolate biscuit range. Pictures taken of people exhibiting PDA will be on display on a special website at www.pdaday.co.nz. The best PDA on the day wins a stay at an upmarket Auckland hotel.
