Hamilton’s Graeme “Robbo” Robertson has joined the MotorSport New Zealand Honours Roll with an Award of Merit, the highest recognition of service to the sport.
Well known throughout the sport as the Chief Clerk of the Course, rally competitor, event organiser, steward and event director for the seven round summer racing series, Robbo has been involved with the sport for over 40 years.
Making the presentation at the annual MotorSport Awards in Wellington on Saturday, president Steven Kennedy said, “although he is still a keen competitor, his administrative and management skills have served the sport extremely well over the years.
“It’s not easy to manage events, apply the rules fairly and evenly and dispense justice when required. Through his education and training courses he has schooled many Clerks of the Course in the finer details of the art and as event director has built an organisation that is respected nationally and internationally.”
Others honoured by the sport at the awards were Colin Giltrap, who received a Special Citation for his role in developing the A1GP NZ team and for making the A1GP round at Taupo a reality.
Dave McCahon from Christchurch received a Technical d’Honneur Award in recognition of more than 30 years providing technical advice and guidance to the sport, while Hamilton’s Alan Curry’s 50 years helping in the administration of the sport in a range of roles including that of Steward, was recognised with the award of Steward d’Honneur.
Recipients of Distinguished Service Awards were Mike Cameron (New Plymouth), Shayne Harris (Palmerston North), Dave Slater (Taupo) and Ian Snellgrove (Drummond, Southland).
