New World To Sponsor World Netball Championships

NEWS RELEASE
7TH JUNE 2007

New World To Sponsor World Netball Championships

Foodstuffs has announced its New World supermarket chain is to be the naming rights sponsor for the World Netball Championships, which will be held in Auckland in November.

“It’s a perfect fit for us,” says Mark Baker, General Manager Retail Sales & Performance, Foodstuffs (Auckland) Limited. “Netball is one of New Zealand’s most popular sports, and many of our 131 New World stores support their local netball clubs and school netball teams. It’s great to be able to do something on a national scale like this.”

“We’re delighted to have attracted a sponsor of New World’s calibre,” says Jane Patterson, World Netball Championships 2007 General Manager.

“Getting sponsorship for a major international event at the short notice after the championships were moved from Fiji could have been challenging. We’re thrilled that a New Zealand-owned company such as Foodstuffs has been willing to support New Zealand hosting the championships.

“It’s fantastic to be able to host the event here for a third time, and we are unlikely to get the opportunity for many more years,” she says.

“We’ve got a series of initiatives that we’ll be announcing in the lead-up to the World Championships that will ensure New Zealanders right across the country are going to be able to share in the excitement of the games.”

Tickets for the World Netball Championships 2007 go on sale today [Thursday 7th June]. Sixteen teams from around the world will be competing for the title of Netball World Champions at the Trusts Stadium in Waitakere from 10th – 17th November.

Foodstuffs is a wholly New Zealand-owned company and home to the New World, PAK’nSAVE, Write Price, Duffy & Finn’s and Henry’s retail brands. All Foodstuffs stores are 100% locally-owned and operated.
